This is a vintage oil painting by German wildlife and scenery painter Heinrich Wegener. He lived and worked in Munich and this was painted sometime in the 1940's. He is cataloged in auction houses in both the US and Europe. My father bought this painting while he was stationed in Germany in 1950. It features a stag and a doe standing in front of an alpine mountain range. The brushwork in the mountains is highly textured. The colors are subtle and typical of the Munich style of painting. It is on Masonite as are many of his works, guaranteeing the authenticity. It is signed in the lower left corner. There is no damage to the masonite board and the painting itself is clean and in excellent condition for as old as it is. However, the frame is loose at the corners and has a chip in the top that will need repaired and there is an abrasion mark on the bottom. It is the original antique guilt gold frame it was purchased in. I did not feel comfortable taking this to the frame shops where I live and preferred to let whoever bought the painting do the restoration work. This is a beautiful pastoral reflective mountain scene and his prices have been holding firm. The painting is 16 x 20 inches framed dimensions.
